How to Claim Tax Refund
When you submit your tax return and if you have paid excess taxes against your income then FBR allows all the taxpayers to claim their excess paid tax refund.
Simply you have to login into the IRIS account, and then in the refund tab pick form 170 (application for refund of tax paid in excess).
In that form, you have to write the amount of refund that you want to claim. It could be any amount that is shown against the head of the Refundable amount in the computation section.
Now after writing the refundable amount, now it’s time to attach the required documents in the attachment tab in the 170 form.

Required Documents for Claiming Tax Refund
There are mainly 4 documents required to claim a tax refund in FBR in 2021. These documents are listed below:
- You have to write an application to Commissioner FBR in which you will state your claim
- The salaried person must obtain the whole year’s tax deduction statement from their respective account offices and attach it here
- All types of withholding tax certificates/statements
- Finally, you have to attach the print of the tax return of that year which you already submitted before claiming the tax refund.
So, these are the 4 main documents that FBR requires initially. Now when your case is taken up by the FBR local officers, they may ask for more evidence as they wish.
Sample Application to Claim Tax Refund
Following is a sample application that you can submit by filling in your relevant information:
Dear Sir,
It is stated that I (____) s/o (____) bearing CNIC (____) had successfully submitted my income tax return of the year (___) on dated (___). I have declared all my income and taxes in my tax return. Now I have noticed that there is an amount of Rs. (___) is showing as a refundable amount.
I have applied for the tax refund through the IRIS portal. All the relevant documents have also been attached.
Therefore, it is humbly requested that refund the taxes that I have paid excess against my income.

No dear brother it will take time. These are there is some news about the adjustment of the Refund amount to next year’s Admitted Tax. But it is not confirmed yet. Wait for the reply of FBR it will take around 40 to 60 days to a complete refund.

This article and the YouTube video has been very helpful to me. My question is that most of my Documents are Digital Certificates without any signature. So how do I submit them? Color print or simple print?
